The Beginning

Guernsey Grove Saturday School began as a school dedicated to music. Over time, it became more apparent that there were other needs that needed to be addressed concerning the children and young people attending. Increasingly, parents were highlighting other areas of concern most commonly being issues around educational attainment and behavioural needs. Thus beginning the introduction of lessons in subjects such as Mathematics and English, and Pastoral Care.

Mission
Statement

To deliver within a conducive learning environment with a holistic approach, educational quality in teaching and learning enabling all children and young people to feel valued whilst recognising their unique gifts and individual talents, facilitating positive outcomes in relation to their educational attainment, confidence, self-esteem and life skills.

-August 2006-

PCS Project
(Parents, Child(ren), & School)

Providing parents with an accessible school liaison service through the Saturday School to enable positive outcomes in educational attainment for their children.

Our Philosophy
The ethos of the Saturday School centres around “Every Child Matters” as set out in The Educational Policies for Children in the Governments Paper on Education, These children are the future so along with going back to basics all lessons are based on the ‘3 R’s’ – reading writing and arithmetic wherever possible. We also acknowledge the fact that every child has two ages, both a physical and mental age. To this, we cater from the age of 5 through to 16 years of age.

The Team
We pride ourselves on our dedicated team of committed teachers who all volunteer their time and skills to ensure that every child fulfils their educational potential, because we believe the children of today are our greatest assets.
The Classes
All pupils are divided into groups of five making it possible for all pupils to be given adequate one to one support and attention when required. All classes are formatted in line with the National Curriculum throughout the key stages.
Funding
We are a voluntary group who does not receive external funding. Our main income comes from fees and donations.
Emotional Well-being
The school caters to each child’s needs mentally instead of physically and so where possible we will support and help raise their self-confidence and nurture their individual gifts and abilities.
